The Immigration Reform Imperative requires a minimalist legislative platform – rooted in bedrock American values – that, in the spirit of President Kennedy:
- Resolves, if temporarily and incrementally, only areas of broad public and political agreement,
- Resists inclusion of divisive proposals,
- Resets the immigration debate focusing on intelligent, just and flexible solutions, not political advantage or division.
“Can we doubt that only a Divine Providence placed this land, this island of freedom, here as a refuge for all those people in the world who yearn to breathe freely: Jews and Christians enduring persecution behind the Iron Curtain, the boat people of Southeast Asia, of Cuba and Haiti, the victims of drought and famine in Africa, the freedom fighters of Afghanistan and our own countrymen held in savage captivity.”
Ronald Reagan’s Address Accepting the Presidential Nomination at the Republican National Convention in Detroit, July 17, 1980

“Immigration policy should be generous; it should be fair; it should be flexible. With such a policy we can turn to the world, and to our own past, with clean hands and a clear conscience.”
A Nation of Immigrants, 1959 John Fitzgerald Kennedy
